The project is inspired by African Commemorative Cloth, to include the Vibrancy, history and a cultural celebration of two iconic musicians, Nigerian Born Drummer Tony Allen, and British Rapper Ty. The tradition of placing portraits on wax-prints dates back to Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Nigeria in 1956.

Participation

families got involved in creating their own commemorative designs for TY and Tony Allen, using paint and the collage materials provided. Learning about some of the Wax Prints hidden meanings, colour combining, and how words impact the work.
